Gasoline prices are getting higher as more stations switch to summer blends.
According to Car and Driver, the reason for the switch is when its warmer outside the fuel vaporizes faster and it’s bad for gasoline. Gasoline vapor contributes to respiratory problems, including congestion, coughing, and chest pains. Cars can suffer vapor lock, where the gasoline vaporizes before it reaches the fuel pump, so the blend helps prevent that.
Triple A says the national average is $2.78, and the state’s averaging $2.93. GasBuddy.com has our region around $3.00 per gallon plus or minus a couple cents.
While Alabama is the lowest at $2.48, at least we’re not in California where it cost $3.92 per gallon.
By slowing down you can actually save on fuel, according to AAA, every 5 miles per gallon over 50 MPH is like spending $0.18 per gallon more.
