The Alice Paul House, a domestic violence shelter
"Tis the season for New Year's Resolutions!" Have you ever thought about volunteering for the Alice Paul House? Make a donation of your time as your resolution. The Alice Paul House is once again offering an 80-hour training course in crisis intervention counseling. This is an oppurtunity for you to learn the skills necessary to help victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other serious crimes and to become an active member of our volunteer corps. Street Smart Self Defense Classes are being offered at the Punxsutawney Area Community Center.
Street Smart Self Defense Classes are being offered at the Punxsutawney Area Community Center. Class size is limited to 12 individuals. They will be every Monday night from 7:45-8:45 PM until April 26. $70.00 for all classes. You may pay the full amount when Signing up, or pay $35.00 for the first five classes and the final $35.00 on week five. Classes will fill on a first-come first-served basis. Are you looking for a project for your group or organization in which to make a donation? PASSAGES, Inc., the sexual violence center serving Clarion, Clearfield and Jefferson Counties, is seeking donations for their care kits. A Care Kit is provided to a sexual assault victim at the emergency room following the rape exam. A victim's clothing is taken as evidence during the exam and thus the victim can be left with nothing to wear home from the hospital. A Care Kit provides clothing and basic toiletries for the victim. PASSAGES, Inc. is seeking new sweatshrits and tee-shirts in a variety of sizes for the kits. Monetary donations are also accepted and encouraged! Dubois Regional Medical Center Hospice will hold a Memorial Service
Dubois Regional Medical Center Hospice will hold a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM Sunday March 21, at the St. Catherine of Siena Church, 116 South State St., Dubois. This inter-faith ecumenical service will be held in memory of DRMC Hospice patients who died between August 1, 2009 and Jan 31, 2010. A reception with light refreshments will immediately follow the service in the church gathering area for those who wish to stay. All are welcome to gather and share as those who have touched our lives are remembered. For questions regarding this service, please contact Jill Stewart at DRMC Hospice at 375-3300.

annual community spring cleanup
The Downtown Dubois Revitalization Group has announced the date for the annual community spring cleanup as Saturday, April 10 from 9 AM to Noon. The Cleanup is in it's 7th year and has become an important event in terms of community spirit and cooperation. The cleanup is registered with the state as part of "Let's Pick It Up PA" and with "The Great American Clean-up". Dubois City Park will be the staging are a for the clean-up starting at 9:00 AM. Starting at 11:00, registered groups can return from their cleanup sites, and they will be treated to a complimentary lunch.
